On July 4th of 2011, I started the Man Candy Monday feature here on World of Female. I started with one of my all time favorite actors – Sons of Anarchy‘s Charlie Hunnam. My second profile? The Vampire Diaries and Lost star, Ian Somerhalder. I didn’t start Meet the Candy Candidates over on Girl in Stereo until November of last year but always took suggestions for men to feature. I received my first fan suggestion just after posting my second profile. That suggestion was for Supernatural‘s Jensen Ackles. This made me nervous. Why? Well, I like to try to give people what they want (got me in a bit of trouble last week, in fact) but it’s a little hard to write a profile on someone you have never heard of. That’s right. Until July of last year, I’d never seen Supernatural but after doing Jensen’s profile, I vowed to change that and that’s exactly what I did.

It didn’t take me long to devour all things Supernatural and before long, I was caught up with what had already aired on television. I then learned the pain of being a Supernatural addict – the longing between episodes. The agony between seasons. Sam and Dean? Fantastic but my heart was with a face I knew well. It was a face I’d been seeing since way back in 2002. That face belonged to incredible, adorable and woefully underrated Misha Collins. When I wrote my Jensen Ackles profile, I created the Man Candy Monday poll and since then have received a lot of write-in nominations for a lot of different men. I have never been happier than I was when I saw Misha’s name on the list of nominees. This is a man that deserves every single fan he has and so very much more. Why? We’ll get to that. Let me tell you all about it.

There are a lot of hunky men in Hollywood but Misha’s a different kind of hunky. He’s adorable. He’s witty. His interviews are always wildly entertaining because every word that comes out of his mouth isn’t some preplanned soundbite carefully chosen to sell his product. He’s a person first and an actor second. Misha doesn’t seem to buy into the idea that being an actor means turning yourself into a product or a brand. In an industry full of hollow, shallow and phony marketing tools, Misha comes across as very genuine and very real. To me there isn’t a thing in this world sexier than that.

Misha can get away with refusing to play the Hollywood game because he’s a genuinely talented actor. When he made his first appearance on Supernatural (season four), I immediately recognized him from about a million different things but couldn’t quite place him. As soon as his first episode was over, I looked him up on IMDB and realized he was Tony in Girl, Interrupted, Alexis in 24 and even Paul Bernardo in the film Karla. I recognized him from his appearances on CSI (the original and NY), NCIS, Monk and one of my personal favorites, Nip/Tuck. Why hadn’t I put it together sooner? Simple. He’s that good.

Misha melts into his roles seamlessly and fans respond to that. He isn’t the kind of actor that shows up, reads his lines and goes home. He transforms. He takes his work seriously despite his trademark sense of humor. I suppose in the end, that’s really what I find most appealing about Mr. Collins. His interviews are always a pleasure to watch. His Twitter feed is wildly entertaining. More than all that though, he genuinely seems to care about his fans. In returns, his fans will rally to support him. I underestimated the size of Misha’s fan base and all that drama aside, I’m thrilled to see how much support he has. He has earned it and he deserves it.

Okay, before we get to the pictures, I want to remind everyone that this week’s Meet the Candy Candidates is posted on Girl In Stereo. Head on over there (by clicking here) so you can see who made this week’s poll, vote for your favorite nominee or nominate someone if your favorite isn’t on the list. I have a little bit to say about the last two weeks over there but I’ll keep this post drama free. I’ll say one thing and then move on – if you don’t vote for your favorite your favorite might not win. Don’t want your guy to lose? Vote for him! I won’t be leaving the poll open to give you more chances this time. I learned my lesson. Rally support for your favorite by sharing the post and encouraging other fans to vote. There are a lot of great candidates on this week’s poll (Boardwalk Empire‘s Michael Pitt, Once Upon a Time‘s Jamie Dornan, Revenge‘s Joshua Bowman and Supernatural‘s Jared Padalecki among them), many of them thanks to your nominations. If you wanted someone to win badly enough to nominate them, help them win by voting. Okay – end rant. Time for the pictures! Enjoy!
