Who Should Win the Oscars This Year? The Women That Deserves Oscar Awards This Year!

There seems to be no year free from controversial Oscar awards and one should expect nothing different this year. Oscars award organizers are quite notorious for making numerous mistakes when handing out the award Statuettes in different categories but here are the women that deserve Oscars this year;

Lady Gaga

If everything goes well, Lady Gaga should win Oscar’s best actress award this year. Lady Gaga is widely believed to be the strongest contender for the best actress award at this year’s Oscars.  Though she is mostly known for being one of the best singers and songwriters of all time, her experience in the music industry seemed to have pushed her movie career to the ultimate level. Though, the likes of Viola Davis (for the movie – Widows), Melissa McCarthy, and Olivia Colman, can equally be considered for the award. It was Lady Gaga’s role in the movie- A Star is Born, that seemed to generate more accolades this year.

Glen Close

Glen close has been nominated for five Oscars but never won. Many pundits believe that the veteran actress may clinch the award of the best actress this time around based on the compassionate ground. She will likely get a Best Actress nomination for the movie “The Wife”- a movie filled with intrigues and captivating scenes. If Oscars organizers think being a veteran is a qualification for winning this category, then Glen Close is as good as being declared the winner.

Marielle Heller

Oscars has shut out female directors from this year’s Movie Director of the year award, and they should prepare for a revolt because women buy more than 60% of the movie tickets in theaters. As bad as it may seem for female movie directors, one name that seems to come up in people’s minds as a potential nomination for movie director of the year is Marielle Heller, for doing a fantastic job in the movie- “Can You Ever Forgive Me”. The movie premiered in October 2018 and may likely become nominated if not win the movie director of the year in 2019.

Melissa McCarthy

Melissa McCarthy is another strong contender for the Best Actress award at this year’s Oscars. She was nominated for her role in the movie “Can you ever forgive me”- a comedy-drama that where Melissa stars as “Israel” and she tried to revived her failing writing career through the forging of letters written by famous deceased famous playwrights and actors. This movie drew accolades worldwide and seems to be Melissa’s strongest input towards the Oscars in 2019.

Toni Collette

Toni Collette may not be as popular as Lady Gaga and Marielle Heller, hence she is not one of the strongest contenders for the best actress award, but we all know that Oscars organizers are full of surprises, hence, Toni may pull a surprise this year and clinch the award, for her role in the movie “Hereditary”.

Regina King

Many believe Regina King should win the best-supporting-actress award for the movie “If Beale Street Could Talk”. Regina King was the fierce mother in the movie “If Beale Street Could Talk”. Though she has already won the Emmy awards this year, the stiffest competition for the Oscar’s Best Supporting Actress award will come from the likes of Rachel Weisz (for the movie- The favorite), and Emma Stone. This nomination would be the first for Regina King in 30 years of her acting career. Other women worth considering for the Best Supporting Actress award are Lupita Nyong’ O for her role in the movie “Black Panther”, and Amy Adams.

Amy Adams

Amy Adams is another name being suggested to win the Best Supporting Actress at this year’s Oscars. Amy played the role “Lynne Cheney” in the movie “Vice”- a comedy/drama movie that depicts the Bureaucracies in the US government. No other actress could have performed much better in a political-themed movie than Amy Adams, hence pundits believe she deserves the award too.

Lupita Nyong’ O

Aside from being a strong contender for the Supporting actress of the year, Lupita Nyong’ O is also believed to be a favorite to win the best fashion at the Oscars this year. Lupita is known for its classical and stylish designs, both on the red carpets and in the movies. Her fashion sense in the movie-Black Panther has been rated as one of her best and that qualifies her as a strong contender for Oscars award for fashion this year.

Viola Davis

Viola Davis is another strong contender for the best actress award at this year’s Oscars for her role in the movie “Widows”. The movie was a heist movie perpetrated by a group of widows who attempted to carry out the heist in order to pay back a crime boss after their husbands were killed in a failed criminal job. The screenplay and performances of Viola Davis attracted accolades worldwide.

Yalitza Aparicio

Yalitza Aparicio, the school teacher-turned actress is also a front-runner for the award of the best actress at this year’s Oscars. Her chances of clinching the award may not be as bright as other actresses such as Lady Gaga and Glen Close, but if there is a surprise from Oscars organizers this year, then Yalitza may clinch this award. She was nominated for her role in the movie Roma.

Conclusion

As expected, women are being shut out of so many categories of awards at this year’s Oscars, these include the Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Foreign language, Best sound mixing, best cinematography, Best dramatic picture director, Best Documentary, Best assistant director, and Best story. The category that will probably be keenly contested this year is surely the best actress and the best-supporting actresses. It appears very few women have been nominated in the other categories, hence their chances of clinching those awards are very thin, but one cannot rule out surprises from Oscars organizers.  If you think you know who will win, you can bet on the Oscar winner.
