The Top 20 Performances of So You Think You Can Dance Season 8

The Top Four: So You Think You Can Dance Season 8 (source: Adam Rose/Fox)

This past season has been my first season watching So You Think You Can Dance and I must say, I picked a good season to start watching. The talent this season has been incredible but there are a few performances that stood out from the rest. When compiling lists like these, I try to avoid using performances by the same artist more than once, but there was no way to avoid it this time around with dancers like Marko Germar, Melanie Moore, Sasha Mallory and Tadd Gadduang turning in some truly amazing performances. So I’ve expanded the usual top ten list to a top twenty plus five additional spots for the best group performances. Enjoy!

One of the things I found most appealing about So You Think You Can Dance is the fact that the group numbers aren’t the low point of the shows. With other reality competition shows like The Voice and American Idol, often times, the group numbers are painful to sit through. That isn’t the case with this series. I enjoyed the group numbers every bit as much as the competitive routines. For that reason, I chose my five favorite group routines to share with you instead of lumping them in with the competitive performances listed above. These group numbers definitely stand on their own and deserved their own special spot on the list.

So with the season done and Melanie Moore crowned America’s Favorite Dancer, I now have a new reality competition show to look forward to next summer – one that doesn’t involve Gordon Ramsay oddly enough. Since we’re talking favorite though, I would be remiss to not mention the guest judges. Although I loved Neil Patrick Harris, Lady Gaga and even Katie Holmes, my favorite guest judges this season would have to be Kristin Chenoweth and Jesse Tyler Ferguson. Both genuinely loved the show and loved being asked to participate. It was also great to see Debbie Allen – a true Hollywood legend – appear.

That’s what I thought about season eight of So You Think You Can Dance and now it’s your turn to tell me what you thought. Who was your favorite dancer? What was your favorite performance? What guest judge had you wishing they were permanent members of the judging panel? Sound off in the comments section below.
