I don’t think there is any way I could possibly be happier about the outcome of this week’s Man Candy vote. Keegan Allen is one of those guys that just gets to me in all the right ways. I remember when Keegan made his first appearance on Pretty Little Liars as Toby Cavanaugh, the ‘creepy’ step-brother of even creepier Jenna. I never saw the whole creepy thing. He was always gorgeous to me. The first time he appeared on screen, I was drawn to him. I wanted to know more about this mysterious character with the crazy sexy eyes. Luckily for me – and for viewers of the show – Toby Cavanaugh would become more than just the creepy step-brother. He would become a series regular and become a big part of the show.
More than wanting to see more of the character, I wanted to know more about the actor that brought Toby Cavanaugh to life. I’d never seen him in anything else and I felt I needed to correct that immediately. Unfortunately for me, Keegan Allen’s resume is short. Pretty Little Liars is really his big break – his first big credit. This sets him apart from a lot of the other men I’ve featured for Man Candy Monday but that’s not a bad thing in the grand scheme of things. An interest in Keegan Allen now means getting in on the ground floor – getting in before the really big things start to happen. That doesn’t happen very often. Becoming a fan of Keegan now means getting to watch his career grow. Instead of looking back over his past credits and discovering work he’s done in the past, we instead get to watch as new credits get added to his resume. While I have to admit one of my favorite parts of finding new man candy to crush on is sitting down with some popcorn and marathoning their older work, having the chance to get excited about a new television of film role to check out is exciting. And trust me, as talented, charismatic and gorgeous as Keegan is, there’s going to be a lot of work to look forward to.
One of the things that intrigues me most about Keegan Allen is the natural chemistry he seems to have with everyone he shares a scene with. That’s not something many actors can pull off. Pretty Little Liars really gives him the chance to put that talent on display. Of course we met Toby Cavanaugh as sort of a secondary character as I mentioned early. He was the creepy step-brother of the Liars’ arch nemesis Jenna. It wasn’t until Toby started spending time with Emily (played by Shay Mitchell) that we really got to learn more about who Toby really was. Through this relationship, we started to see him as more than the creepy guy next door and I won’t lie, I was really rooting for a Toby/Emily relationship and a big part of the reason for that was the chemistry Keegan and Shay had on screen. When that didn’t work out, I was a little disappointed but I held out hope that the end of that relationship meant bigger things for Toby on the show. Of course it did. Had Toby and Emily stayed together, we wouldn’t have gotten Emily and Paige or more Emily and Maya. We also wouldn’t have gotten my absolute favorite Pretty Little Liars couple – Spencer and Toby.
I haven’t always been the biggest fan of Troian Bellisario’s Spencer Hastings. She’s just a little too uptight and high-strung for me but put Spencer with Toby and magic happens. He’s the perfect balance for her. Truthfully though, a big part of the reason this couple works so well is the chemistry Keegan and Trioan have together. I’m not one of those fan girls that typically roots for a fictional couple to hook up in real life but with these two, I’d totally be on board. There’s just something about them that makes the teenager in me squeal. In the gallery at the end of this post, there are scores of photos from a shoot Keegan and Troian did together and each one was its own little piece of wonderful captured on film. It doesn’t hurt that I love Troian every bit as much as I love Keegan. While I understand they are both in their own relationships (for sure with Troian but I wasn’t able to find confirmation on Keegan’s relationship status) and wish them nothing but happiness, there is a pretty big part of me that hopes these two end up together for real.
Before we move on to the gallery, I want to take a moment or two to mention a few things I found myself a little surprised by as I was researching this profile and gathering pictures. First, there is a shocking lack of information out there about Keegan. I found a few different websites that state where he was born. Unfortunately, those websites can’t seem to agree on where that was. I found a site that listen Keegan’s birthplace as Texas, one that said Oregon and two that said Australia. I’m quite certain he isn’t Australian although I do have a soft spot for Aussies so it would make sense. There was also a little uncertainty surrounding Keegan’s age and year of birth as well as his relationship status. For that reason, our “vital stats” section is a little sparse. Finally, I was struck by just how attractive Keegan actually is. The hair they had him sporting for many of his appearances on Pretty Little Liars didn’t do this stunning man any favors. Sometimes, I find myself more attracted to an actor because of the character they’re playing when I’m introduced to them and I honestly wondered if that was the case with Keegan. Looking at picture after picture of him I realized that just wasn’t true. This man is beautiful. He’s got killer bone structure and those eyes? Forget it! Stunning. This profile has been a pleasure to do. Thank you for voting for Keegan. I love him even more now than I did when I put him on the poll.
