Home Remedies for a Runny Nose

For most to all of us at one time in our life, we have suffered from an irritating and an annoying runny nose.  As common as a runny nose is, more and more people are finding themselves using home remedies to cure their runny nose rather than rushing to the doctor for such a minor symptom.  Runny noses can flare up for many reasons whether it is an onset of a common cold starting up or simply allergies starting to form.  However your runny nose has come about there is one thing for sure; you want to get rid of it as quickly as possible before you start wasting your valuable time on constantly running back and forth to a store for more tissues. Lime and Honey – can help with your runny nose hand in hand.  Simply take one tablespoon of honey and mix it with 3-4 drops of fresh lime juice.  You will then want to add a cup of water to the mixture and warm it up on your stovetop.  Warm the mixture for 5-10 minutes and allow it to cool to a lukewarm temperature before consuming the mixture.  You will be surprised in the effects of this home remedy for your runny nose.  This home remedy also can help if you are having coughing symptoms as well.

 

Salt and Water – as simple as it may sound, can also aid in your runny nose symptom.  Simply take one cup of warm water and mix 2 tablespoons of salt to it.  You will want to boil it over a stovetop and then inhale the steam produced from the solution.  The steam not only removes secretions but also helps break up mucus and helps to get it out of your body.   This home remedy will greatly reduce your runny nose symptom in little to no time at all.  Repeat this process until your runny nose has taken its course.

Vitamin C – this is a natural anti-histamine that helps stabilize cell membranes and therefore making it harder for a histamine from being released.  Vitamin C also helps in the restoration of your immune system and the functions of your body.  Consuming large amounts of Vitamin C is very beneficial in your quest to clearing up a runny nose.  You can consume Vitamin C through juice form or form the natural fruit itself.  Fruits that are very high in Vitamin C are oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruits, and grapes.  When you are choosing to consume your Vitamin C through juice form makes sure that you are consuming at least 8-10 glasses per day for the best results in relieving your runny nose.

Ginger – can also be used as a home remedy to cure a runny nose.  Ginger not only drains the nose but also helps maintain a normal body temperature if you have a fever associated with your runny nose.  Ginger is used for many types of illnesses and health conditions all due to its natural properties.  Try chewing ginger at least 2-3 times a day and watch your runny nose symptoms subside to nothing.

Taking A Hot Shower – is also a very good way to cure man common cold symptoms especially those that have to do with any type of congestion such as a runny nose.  What you will want to do is inhale the steam from the hot shower.  The hot steam will unclog your nose and will also help in the fight against viruses that can be causing your runny nose.  You can also add peppermint and menthol to the steam and this also clears and dries out nasal passageways.  Another benefit to using this home remedy is that the steam also clears out your airway making it easier to breath, something that can become difficult when you are battling a runny nose.
