Veep – HBO

A superb comedy about the unexpected and often unglamorous life of a United States Vice President, Julia Louis-Dreyfus plays Selina Meyer, a former Senator who becomes second in command only to quickly realize that being second isn’t all that wonderful. Co-starring with Louis-Dreyfus are Anna Clumsky, Tony Hale, and Reid Scott. The fast paced dialogue and the heavily improvised interactions between the characters make Veep a must watch show.

The Knick – Cinemax

The Knickbocker Hospital is the setting of this period drama starring Clive Owen and Andre Holland. Owen plays Dr. John Thackery, a cocaine addicted surgeon who pushes medical boundaries by attempting to aid New York City’s poorest population during a time of limited medicine and few resources. Holland plays Dr. Edwards, a top surgeon and doctor, who is judged and limited by his race. The drama that The Knick delivers in every episode from its talented and diverse cast is unparalleled.

True Detective – HBO

Louisiana detectives lead this flashback filled drama about uncovering murders and mysterious events. Seasonally, the protagonists change, but the compelling storyline remains intact. Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey lead viewers through season 1 of HBO”s show as Detective Marty Hart and Detective Rusty Cohle respectively. The intrigue and complex plot of each episode leaves viewers dying to know what happens next.
