5 Rainy Day Activities You Can Enjoy with Your Kids

If bad weather is stopping you from getting outdoors and you’re struggling to think of ways to entertain your kids, look no further. Here are five rainy day activities that you can enjoy with your kids, keeping them occupied and saving you money too.

Family Movie Day (or Night)

What’s more fun than getting to cuddle up in a blanket with your children and having a fun-filled movie day or night? You can even bring the cinema experience into your home by creating your own personal theater. Close the curtains, dim the lights, and make sure you have plenty of snacks. You can even add a fun element to it by making the kids ‘buy’ a ticket (homemade of course) and using a toy cash register for the ticket stand. Make sure that you pick films that all the family will enjoy, however, there may need to be some compromising involved!

Family Game Day

If you would rather avoid spending time looking at the big screen all day, why not have a family game day instead? There are plenty of classic board games that all the family can partake in, providing you with endless hours of fun filled entertainment. Whether you like a game of Monopoly or something more visual such as a game of charades, there are so many options to pick from. You will also get to see everyone’s competitive side come out to play, which can add an extra level of excitement.

Make a Blanket Fort

If you want to be a bit more creative, a good idea could be to make a blanket fort that you and your kids can play in because at the end of the day, toys are better when they are inside a blanket fort. Help your children create a fabulous super-fort in the living room that can provide you all with hours of fun. There are no limits when it comes to imagination, so as there are no right or wrong answers, simply create something that’s fun for you and the kids.

Cook Together

If the rain isn’t going away anytime soon, a great way to spend some time is to get in the kitchen and cook with your kids. There are all sorts of ways to make cooking fun and interesting for the kids. Assigning them different responsibilities can give them a sense of independence, while also helping them to work as a team to create some tasty recipes. There are all sorts of tasks that they can help you with, however, it’s best to leave the cutting and chopping to the adults. You can cut with one of these boards to get the job done quicker and easier. Not only will your kids feel included, they will also feel proud of what they’ve accomplished. Having a helping hand when cooking can never be a bad thing.

Play Hide and Seek

You may be thinking that you need to go to the ends of the earth to keep your kids entertained. What you might not realize is that kids love simplicity! A game of hide and seek can be just as fun to them as playing on a smartphone or tablet, so why not use your whole house and bring out your creative side? The rules of the game are simple and can be modified to add some education into the mix. For example, instead of having your kids count to ten, why not make them recite the alphabet? Mixing education with fun can be incredibly beneficial and make your kids learn something new.

Whether you organize a family movie day, play a game or two or get in the kitchen and cook up a storm, there are plenty of activities that you and your kids can enjoy on a rainy day. Try not to see the bad weather as all doom and gloom as you will be saving money and getting to spend quality time with your loved ones.
