5 Healthy Versions of Your Favorite Treat Food

Winter is the time of year when comfort foods are an essential. When it’s raining and cold outside it can be tempting to make, or order in, some of your favorite unhealthy meals, especially after a long day. If you’re craving an unhealthy dish but you’re doing your best to stick to a healthy eating plan, then why not try some of these tasty dishes that’ll tackle the cravings while keeping you feeling great at the same time.

Healthy Mac and Cheese

This is the perfect dish for those occasions when time is against you. It’s tasty, it’s warming and, most importantly it’s low in fat and calories. This recipe uses vegetable broth, broccoli and breadcrumbs to create a mac and cheese dish which is under 250 calories!  You can also use vegan cheddar to adapt this dish for a vegan diet.

Pizza

Pizza is a great sharing food when you’re having a get together or for a special night in. When cooking this at home, you could use a tortilla or vegetable base, or when ordering in, opt for half a pizza with a side salad. You could also make this an even healthier option by choosing a wholemeal base, thin crust and requesting less cheese – yes, you really can have pizza on a diet.

Greek Feta Beef Burger

Classic burgers are probably the easiest treat food to make into a healthy alternative. You can use plain Greek yoghurt in place of mayonnaise for a healthy sauce and toppings such as: cucumber, feta cheese and red onions as used here, can be used to achieve a fuller flavor. Add your own healthy toppings according to your taste.

Curry is a great choice for a big family dinner because once the preparation’s been done, you can leave it simmering all day if you wish. This brilliant recipe shows you how to make a stunning chicken madras with less than 250 calories per portion. Using onion, garlic, ginger and chilies to make the paste and chicken thigh fillets, this curry will feed the whole family and they will be amazed at the low-calorie count.

Avocado Chocolate Brownies
