Have you ever looked at a male celebrity and wondered what makes him appealing? A few days ago, I posted my weekly Man Candy Monday profile featuring Alexander Skarsgård and asked that very question about him. Of course I caught onto the appeal there pretty quickly. He’s gorgeous – a beautiful specimen of the male gender. It took me a while to realize it but once I did, there was no denying it and a new celebrity crush was born. A while back, I had the same ‘ah-ha’ moment with Robert Pattinson.
The appeal with both Alexander Skarsgård and Robert Pattinson is pretty obvious once you see it. Neither one is necessarily sexy in a typical sort of way but they’re both definitely incredibly attractive men. This article isn’t about men like Skarsgård and Pattinson though. This article is about a completely different kind of men – the men that aren’tattractive in even the broadest sense of the word yet somehow manage to be sexy. They’re the guys you’re attracted to but you have no idea why. Of course, this is opinion. Some of you will disagree. Feel free to let me in the comments section at the end of the article. 10: Danny Trejo
Okay, okay – I’ll admit I might be alone on this one but I think this man is sexy but I have no idea why. Perhaps it could be his general badass-ness, his back story or his awesome press quotes but there’s just something about this guy that gets my pulse racing. Before you jump all over me, I’d like to remind you that this is my list and I have always had very, very unusual taste in men. Just sayin’.
09: Seth MacFarlane
When you really look at Seth – no really, take a moment to really look at Seth– it’s hard to imagine you’d ever give him a second look if he was just some guy in a bar. He kind of looks like a little boy. Look at those cheeks! I just want to squeeze those wittle cheeks! (actually what I stated aloud when I found this picture). The story might be different should you happen to be in a karaoke bar and Seth took the stage to sing. This man has a voice like good scotch – smooth, cool with just enough bite. It doesn’t hurt that he also has that, “I don’t give a damn” attitude and a wickedly funny sense of humor.
08: Gordon Ramsay
If you’ve read my article about fall television, you likely know I have a soft spot for Gordon Ramsay and his shows. Here’s the thing about that though. People constantly refer to him as hot and well, I just don’t see it. He kind of has a face like a well worn leather jacket. For some reason though, the man keeps finding his way into my dreams. I always wake up disturbed and a bit unsure of what my subconscious is trying to tell me but I think I’ve figured it out – stop watching so much Ramsay.
07: Steven Tyler
I know, I know. He’s a rock star and yeah, he looks pretty good for his age… in theory. Steven Tyler is sexy. I would totally do him assuming, of course, my husband wouldn’t mind. Which I hope he would. Anyway, the point I’m trying to make here is this: why? If Steven wasn’t in Aerosmith and wasn’t a legendary rock star, would I still feel all funny in the pants about him? Probably not. He is old enough to be my father, after all.
06: Bill Maher
I don’t care who disagrees with me on this one. Bill Maher is sexy. He might not be pretty like Robert Pattinson or Alexander Skarsgård but he’s smart. Not only is he smart but he isn’t afraid to say what he thinks. Do I agree with him all the time? Of course not but nothing gets me going more than a heated debate with someone that can actually support their opinion. Stimulation for the mind and body, Bill Maher can come over to my place any time.
05: Seth Green
He’s geeky. He’s tiny. He’s also hilarious. I absolutely adore Seth Green in ways I can’t even express adequately in words. He has been one of my biggest celebrity crushes for longer than I can remember and I know I’m not alone in this. When I was preparing my Skarsgård Man Candy article, I asked friends what they found attractive about him. The answers were physical traits, for the most part – his eyes, his mouth, his jaw, his body. When I posed the same question about Seth Green, I got two answers, “I don’t know, he’s just hot” and “Um, hi – he’s hilarious”. I think that pretty much sums it up.
04: Charlie Sheen
How in the world does Charlie Sheen keep getting hot women? All that we know about Charlie should be enough to make any woman run screaming from his company yet I’m willing to bet there are hordes of women who wouldn’t. His “I don’t give a f**k” attitude is sexy. His sense of humor about himself and about his life is sexy. Would that be enough to get me into bed? Uh, I really want to say no, but…
03: Steve Buscemi
Steve Buscemi is likely one of the least physically attractive men working in the industry today. I love the man and count him among my all time favorite actors – possibly even my favorite actor – but that’s based on talent, not his physical attributes. I would watch anything that he stars in simply because he’s in it. He just doesn’t do ‘bad’. He is the primary reason I tuned in to HBO’s Boardwalk Empire and I’m glad I did. It’s not only a terrific show but it also casts Steve in an entirely new light. Steve Buscemi, ladies man. Steve Buscemi, sleazy politician. Steve Buscemi, eye candy. Okay, maybe not, but the role does look pretty damn sexy on him.
02: DJ Qualls
Speaking of Steve Buscemi, I’ve always thought someone, somewhere needs to cast DJ Qualls and Steve Buscemi as father and son. It seems so obvious that I can’t believe it hasn’t happened yet. Here’s what I love about DJ Qualls – he manages to be sexy just by being himself. He hasn’t really been blessed with that many gifts physically but the scrawny, geeky look really works for him. Fun fact: DJ started his career as a fashion model. It sounds ridiculous until you actually see some of those pictures. There’s nothing typical about his hotness which really makes him even more appealing.
01: Ron Perlman
Ron Perlman is a weird, weird lookin’ dude. I don’t think anyone can deny that. Somehow, though, I think he’s one of the sexiest guys on television. Maybe it’s the voice – the low, masculine, gravely rumble that is instantly identifiable. The man opens his mouth and you know it’s him. On top of that, he offers this rugged intensity whenever he’s on screen. While I love a sensitive guy who wears his heart on his sleeve, there’s something inherently sexy about a guy that is all man and ladies – that is Ron Perlman.
