Welcome to ’10 Cute Animal Videos to Brighten Your Day’. There is definitely no shortage of doom and gloom in the world. This is not the place for that doom and gloom. This column is all about taking a few minutes out of your day or your week to have a little chuckle, maybe say ‘aw’ a few times and remember that for all of the bad that there is in this world, there’s also a whole lot of cute. 10: What Did You Do? Sweetpea the Boxer Puppy Gets in Trouble.
This is one of my favorite puppy videos simply because I have a dog and this scene has happened in my house many time. Poor Sweetpea knows she’s in trouble. Just look at that face. The best part is it’s hard to escape the feeling that perhaps Pugsley is really to blame and Sweetpea, being the bigger dog, is taking the fall. I have had this theory about my dog and my cat many times.
09: A Baby Raccoon Enjoys a Tasty Treat.
Normally when a raccoon stars in an internet video it is doing something to live up to its reputation as nature’s little bandit (see raccoon video later in this post), so it’s nice to see a raccoon getting a little credit for just being its adorable self. I love that these folks were kind enough to take the raccoon in. Of course, it should be pointed out that wild animals should never be kept as pets, but with that said, raccoons actually do make pretty good companions.
08: Penguins: Nature’s Clumsiest Birds?
I love penguins. I love everything about them – their little black and white tuxedos, those little flippers/wings and the mean waddle they get around using. Perhaps I feel a kinship with them because, like penguins, there is absolutely nothing graceful about me. What I love about this video is the fact that I can imagine that poor little penguin taking a tumble and thinking, “Oh of course – someone would have to have a camera. I just know this is gonna end up on YouTube.”
07: Snowball the Dancing Cockatoo.
What isn’t to love about this video? Even the squawking bird sounds are tolerable because it sounds like the little guy is trying to sing. I absolutely love this bird. Snowball has several videos on YouTube and has been featured on ‘Animal Planet’. This is my favorite video of the batch so I decided to post this one, but I’m pretty sure I could’ve filled this list with videos of Snowball alone.
06: The Classic Surprised Kitten.
This one certainly made the rounds and for good reason. This little guy (or maybe girl) is so freaking adorable with it’s little paws it hurts my eyes a little bit. The talking bits might be a little annoying, but hey, who doesn’t instantly revert to baby talk when they’re confronted with a kitten this cute? If you say you don’t, you’re lying. The only thing cuter than this video is a parody made by some guy in black glasses in which he plays the surprised kitten. Adorable, hilarious and worth checking out. I believe it’s called ‘Surprised boy’. Look it up on YouTube when you have a moment. Definitely good for a laugh.

05: The Wonder of a Dreaming Puppy.
Do you ever wonder what dogs dream about? Cats dream too, of course, but they don’t seem quite as animated about it. My dog barks, whines and twitches wildly in her sleep – much like this adorable little puppy. Do you think puppies dream about other puppies? Fields full of rawhide bones, squeak toys and plates of leftovers as far as the eye can see? Or perhaps puppies have nightmares – intruders coming into the house to try to steal all of their rawhide bones and squeak toys and to eat all of the leftovers. The mind of a puppy is a mysterious place.
04: A Raccoon Helps Himself.
Earlier I spoke of how it was nice to see a raccoon video that didn’t cast the raccoon in the role of bandit. It was nice to see a video in which the raccoon star was just enjoying a tasty treat. This one, however, is… well, it’s just better. Why does the raccoon steal the doormat? I have no idea. Perhaps he saw it and thought it would look perfect at the door of his den or wherever this guy lives. Who says a raccoon can’t have a passion for home decor?

03: The Sneezing Baby Panda.
Do you know what isn’t awesome about this video? Absolutely nothing. Everyone about this video is awesome in epic proportions. The reaction Mama Panda has to Baby Panda’s ‘sneeze’ (if you can even call it that) is frigging priceless. The first time I saw this video, I laughed until my head ached. Then I watched the video about a hundred times more and laughed even more. The headache was totally worth it.
02: Mama Cat and Her Baby Kitten.
If you haven’t seen this video yet, you may be living on Mars. Sorry to have to be the one to tell you. This one has more than 27 million views on YouTube but there’s a damn good reason for that. This is, quite possibly, the cutest kitten video I’ve ever seen – and I’m a lady that’s seen a lot of cat videos. The way Mama cat pulls her kitten in all close for a snuggle is just too precious. I actually pulled an ‘aw’ muscle when I watched this one.
