When you were a child, you may have often sat down in the small corner of your room, with tears trickling down your cheeks probably because of some strife with a friend, trouble in learning your lessons, envying a friend for his new pair of roller skates or hundreds of other childhood desires and demands unfulfilled. Growing up as a teenager, selecting out the best gown for your prom night, allowing you to have night outs at your friend’s house, helping you make the best choice for your college and so on you would have had a helping hand always to guide you right and best. Gradually as you walked to the later stages of life, a constant support and care always channeled your way through the worst or good times selflessly. All through this life span one force that walked like a shadow beside you could have been none other than an altruistic and dedicated being, your Mother.
Its not a very novel topic to discuss all would say. With already thousands or even more literature available on the web why would one choose to write over it yet again. But what drives people like me to such subjects is the serenity and profundity in the context and the beauty that god has created in the relationship between a mother and a child.
A mother gives birth to a child after nurturing the baby for 9 months in her womb. When a child is born its not another mass of bone and flesh that steps into the world. The bond begins from the time the life starts blossoming inside her and it lasts until her last breath. Having her infant beside her wipes out even the ugly and painful memories of the labor room and the same selflessness and love are the founding pillars of her lifetime dedicated motherhood.
There is a very old saying that reads,” The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.” Many of us or rather each of us would strongly agree to it and are well able to recognize mother’s role in shaping her child’s future. Mothers have always emphasized over imparting the right values to her child and strengthening him, morally as well physically to face the downturns with optimism. What a child imbibes during the early stages of his life from his parents are the stepping stones of what people perceive of him in his lifetime. Its often the mother who takes the fallout for the toddler tantrums and the teenage angst. Despite this, her love will always be unconditional.
In today’s world women’s role is no longer confined to the four concrete walls of her house. Apart from being a housemaker she is also a bread earner enjoying the same social status and recognition like that of men. And the superfluous workload has never come in her way of her responsibility as a parent. Also her sacrificing and ready to make compromise attitude for the happiness of her family places her at a level above the rest. Mothers are the only workers who never have a regular time off. They are the great vacation less class always there for their family and children. So if you talk of the famous entrepreneurs like late Mary Kay Ash or Pepsico CEO Indra Nooyi, and many others like them, their primary focus has always been parenting and looking after their children like any other mother. Also when it comes to being a single parent, women have well managed to play the role of both a strong and sturdy father outside and a humble and soft caring mother at home.
Washington Irving said “A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials, heavy and sudden, fall upon us when adversity takes the place of prosperity when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine, desert us when troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.” Women’s role as a mother is incomparable to any other relationship in the world. Her love and affection for her child is immeasurable and walking down the journey of life, a mother will stand beside her child in every thick and thin. As God could not be everywhere, he sent mothers on earth. And ever since life has existed on the planet, mothers have held the supreme place above all for their altruism and commitment to their role all through their lifetime.
