The holiday season is almost here, you obviously need the house to look welcoming for the guests who are going to come and party at your place. You do not want your house to look like a cave! You want it to look bright, festive and a place where everyone will feel welcome.
There are many ways in which you can do it but most of them take effort which might be unnecessary and many at times it will dig a hole down your pocket so deep that it takes time to sew it back again! But there are things which you can do to make your guests be flabbergasted as well as do it within a small budget.
Keep it clean:
Always remember that cleaning your house is not just swapping and dusting, but also create a de-cluttered look. You might have a clean home, but books kept in disarray, your hats all over the dresser or your shoes all piled in the hallway will make your home look ugly. What you need, is to segregate all items and find ways to arrange them in neat patterns. Get a cheap books rack to put all books away, but plastic boxes to put your shoes in and create interesting patterns with them and create a ‘Hat display Wall’ where your favorite hats become a part of your décor.
Do not “over decorate”:
Even though you want your house to look as presentable as possible it is not suggested that you buy everything available in the market to make your guests know about your designing skills. You do not want your house to look like a dumping ground. The best thing is to first make a list and then see what you actually need. Going to the store without any idea makes you lose focus and leads to this unmitigated disasters. While buying festive cushion covers, beautiful Christmas lights and red ribbons to hang on light fixtures is a good idea; stay away from gaudy decorative Santas and over the top decorative.
Customize your design style with personalized items:
It is very good to go to a design store and get fancy stuff to put around your house but the ‘In’ thing this season is to keep a few knick knacks you picked up during your travels they can be funky travel souvenirs, or stuff like postcards, or a picture collage, or anything at all where people know what places you have been to. They not only say a lot about your taste but also say a lot about the good and memorable experience you had during your travels. The little pen stands from Egypt and the lovely earthenware from India must be put up for display.
Put a part of your culture in your design:
You can be one of those who are all up for contemporary designs but then putting a hint of your culture in your house makes it looks cozy and stylish. It does not mean that you go for the old school designs but anything minimal can also be some thing which shows your roots; a key chain, a cushion, a door knob, a hook on the wall, anything can be a representative of the culture you come from.
Do it with pictures:
While decorating it is very important that you put some of your personal memories in your house. It gives a sense of warmth to your living space and makes it more welcoming. Putting pictures also does not mean you put everything and anything. It is very important to chose the right kind of pictures for the right places like your living space, your den, you bedroom etc.
With these easy tips that are also easy on the pocket, you can give your home a makeover this season and create an abode you are proud of.
