4 Things You Must Know Before Traveling

Planning your vacation can be such a thrill. You will want to know the best beaches to surf, the best slopes to ski, where to hike,  and of course, the best places to eat. These are the fun parts. This is what you are looking forward to the most. There are several things you need to know before you head out on your vacation.

Local and Government Laws

Laws can be so different from country to country. If you like to hold hands or kiss in public, use caution. There are some places like, Dubai, where it is illegal to kiss in public. Even if you are a married couple.

If you are in a same sex relationship, knowing where to travel is very important. Places like, India, homosexuality is illegal.

Before you travel, be sure to know what types of clothing and styles are appropriate based on gender. There are some places that women can wear pants and some countries don’t allow cross-dressing for men. Know before you go. The punishment in some countries is more than a fine.

If you live in America, you have freedom of speech, but in China you do not. In China you are not allowed to go against the government.

Even everyday habits, can cause you trouble. In Singapore, spitting or smoking can get you a fine or more severe consequences.

Culture

Laws and culture go hand in hand. While not adhering to the culture of the area may not get you a fine or punishment, it could really upset the locals.

Red ink, adding salt to food, eating before visiting a friend’s home,  and touching someone’s head can be viewed as very disrespective.

Clothing is another area where you will want to research before you go. Many countries have conservative views on clothing. You don’t want the embarrassment that could go with wearing the wrong outfit.

Safety & Weather

These may sound like obvious points, but this will take more research than you probably think. The weather and wildlife drastically varies from county to county. A bite from a venomous snake could mean death, depending on your location. In other areas, you can survive that bite with medical treatments. Some locations are just dangerous so not having insurance is would be a mistake.. They can be risky because of the animals or the people. If you are in an area where theft is common, double up. Plan to bring extra of those items and carry some with you and leave some at the hotel.

Mosquitoes and other insects can be a real problem, so prepare and bring bug repellent.

In some countries, you are safe to drink water from the tap, but some countries, watch out! It can make you very sick.

Besides cultural importance, you should know how to dress for the weather. If your trip involves a ton of rain, you may want to skip the flip flops, which can be slippery. On the other hand, if it is going to be hot and humid, flip flops could be perfect. Also, check for temperature fluctuations. Desert locations can be extremely hot during the day and cool at night.

No matter where you are planning to visit, know the fun aspect of the trip, as well as, the bad. Being prepared can save you from a terrible experience and even some money. Don’t forget to pack the essentials too.
