2011 The year that was

2011 had been an eventful year. There were tones of things to be happy about and even many to mourn for. The world over witnessed many things that made 2011 a year to remember. Below we list the significant happenings in the year gone by.

Osama Bin Laden killed: – When the twin towers of World Trade Centre came down nearly a decade ago, the world shook with terror. Terrorists groups were feared by just everyone and people didn’t feel secure anymore. In the terrorist attack, innumerable people lost their lives and many were injured. The fateful day came to be known as 9/11 the world over. And since then the US Armed forces have been searching for the man behind it all, Osama Bin Laden. The then US President George W Bush sent troops to the Middle East to search for the man. But it took ten years to track down the ever moving terrorist. And on 2nd May 2011, the US troops killed Osama Bin Laden in Abbottabad in Pakistan.

Gaddafi shot to death by protesters: – He was the ruler of Libya and supported many terrorists and anti west organizations. The former Libyan dictator was also a sex addict and had a penchant for young women. His torture and barbarian ways had led to an uprising in Libya. This uprising went on for many days, and finally resulted in Muammar Gaddafi’s death. Incidentally, he has killed with his own gun. What a golden death, we must say.

The Royal Wedding: – Weddings are always are pleasure to watch and when there’s a wedding in the royal family, it is bound to be remembered for years to come. Prince William married commoner Kate Middleton on 29th April, last year.

While their wedding made it to the headlines all over the world, the highlight of this ceremony was the bride wedding dress and the ring that she wore. Apparently, the ring belonged to the late Princess Diana, William’s mother. Post marriage Kate is known as Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William, Duke of Cambridge

Harry Potter Magic ends: – The fans of the magical world of J K Rowling’s’ Harry Potter had been dreading this day for long. 15th July 2011 the last Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 hit the screens. The diehard fans of the series rejoiced when the Dark Lord, Voldemort, was killed by the boy who lived. All the seven films were loved by the audiences and the last offering in the series was received by much love.

Steve Jobs Died: – The world got hooked on to ipod and ipads, all thanks to the genius mind of Steve Jobs the co founder,chairman and CEO of Apple Inc.  He had successfully battled pancreatic cancer in 2003, though he had been appearing leaner ever since then.

And while the global audiences were waiting for another mind blowing offering from him, Steve Jobs breathed his last 5th October 2011. Steve Jobs is truly an Icon.

Now that we have bid adieu to 2011, here’s hoping that 2012 will be as happening as its predecessor. What about the Mayan predication that the world will end on 21st December, this year? Let’s just wait and watch.
